As a German federal enterprise, the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH is a global service provider in the field of international cooperation for sustainable development. The “Climate Change and Circular Economy” Team is part of GIZ India’s Cluster Environment, Climate Change and Biodiversity.

The CC & CE team supports government, citizens, civil society, private sector, and decision makers to build resilience to climate change and foster circular, resource efficient approaches, that contribute to a growing body of knowledge that improves understanding of the challenges of our times and provides evidence-based solutions.

We work on solutions for

Mitigation of climate change

supporting public and private sector to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions by designing sector-specific (eg. forestry, waste management, industry) carbon reduction mechanisms and facilitating linkage to carbon markets

Adaptation to climate change

supporting vulnerable communities to increase their coping capacity and strengthen institutions for climate risk-integrated financing, planning and implementation

Circular Economy

supporting public and private sector to incorporate principles of resource efficiency, optimisation and waste management to contribute to sustainable consumption and production goals

Policy Support & Coordination

supporting decision makers by facilitating designing of appropriate policy frameworks and building institutional mechanisms so that these solutions become scalable and sustainable

The CC&CE team is committed to facilitating a sustainable development model where all have equitable access to resources. This calls for the commitment of all stakeholders involved to increase ownership, strengthen capacities, and bring about transformational change. The team commits towards implementing tangible and scalable solutions contributing towards the Paris Agreement on Climate Change, 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Indo-German Green and Sustainable Development Partnership.
