Thomas Lennartz is the Director/Co-Lead of the Climate Change & Circular Economy Group in the Environment, Climate Change & Natural Resource Management Cluster of GIZ India. In addition, he is the Head of the projects “Support to the Green and Sustainable Development Partnership” (GSDP) and “Protection and Sustainable Management of Aquatic Resources in the North-Eastern Himalayan Region of India” (NERAQ).
Before joining GIZ India he supported the Global Programme “Human Mobility in the Context of Climate Change” as an Advisor at GIZ HQ in Bonn, Germany. Previously, Dr. Lennartz served as Disaster Risk Management Specialist at the World Bank’s Global Facility for Disaster Reduction and Recovery (GFDRR) and as an Advisor for disaster risk management in the GIZ Sector Programme “Peace and Security, Disaster Risk Management”. Prior to that he worked as a Project Coordinator in the Africa Unit of the German Federal Institute for Geosciences and Resources (BGR), where he supported projects on groundwater and mineral resource management in several African countries.
Mr. Lennartz holds a PhD in Geography from the University of Heidelberg (South Asia Institute) with a specialisation on natural hazards and disaster risk management and a Master’s degree in Geography from the University of Bonn, Germany.
