Context

In May 2022, India and Germany established the Green and Sustainable Development Partnership which aims to intensify bilateral, triangular, and multilateral cooperation on climate policy and SDG implementation. GIZ was commissioned to implement the project “Support to the Green and Sustainable Development Partnership” (GSDP) that aims to strengthen transformative approaches for Indo-German cooperation in these focus areas. It builds on the entire portfolio of Indo-German technical and financial cooperation and provides strategic and operational support to the partnership.

The project collaborates closely with the Ministry for Environment, Forest, and Climate Change (MoEFCC) in the field of climate adaptation and with the National Institution for Transforming India (NITI Aayog) with respect to SDG implementation.

The GSDP project is part of the Climate Change and Circular Economy (CC & CE) Group of GIZ India. The CC & CE group supports government, citizens, civil society, private sector, and decision makers to build resilience to climate change and foster circular, resource efficient approaches, that contribute to a growing body of knowledge that improves understanding of the challenges of our times and provides evidence-based solutions. We work on solutions for: (i) Mitigation of Climate Change, (ii) Adaptation to Climate Change, (iii) Circular Economy, and (iv) Policy Support & Coordination. The group implements 19 projects in 16 states and works with institutions such as the MoEFCC, other national, state and local government institutions, private sector, research and academic institutions.
